William Dean (Bill) Harrelson passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Scotland County Care Center, Memphis, MO. where he had moved from living in the Residential Care Center since his wife, Carol passed away in Oct. of 2012.
He was born in Sullivan County, Missouri in the Boynton community area near Milan, MO on March 12, 1930, to William Marion and Jenny Ethel (Glasgow) Harrelson.
Bill attended school in Milan through the 11th grade and moved to Moline, IL in 1950 where he worked as a truck driver and mechanic. He married J. Carol (East) Carlson in Milan, MO on August 08, 1966 and to this union one child was born, a daughter, Nancy. His family grew to include four step daughters, Johanna, Karen, Becky and Gail Carlson

The Harrelson family moved to Memphis in 1973 and Bill worked for his nephew, Robert Hamilton as a carpenter helping to build and finish carpentry jobs and later he went to work at the National Garment factory in Memphis along with the glove factory in Edina, MO. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, meeting with the Antique Fair committee and car races, especially NASCAR. He liked to tinker with motors and loved mowing his yard.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, brothers and their spouses, Clell (Abby), Sam (Betty), Gene, sisters and their spouses, Evah (Wilmer) Grindstaff, Georgia (Leonard) Hamilton, Grace (Ken) Miller, and an infant brother Everett.
Bill is survived by daughter Nancy (Matt)Shearer, Rockville, MD, and four step-daughters, Johanna (George) Dieterich, Rockwall, TX, Karen Ward, Cape Coral, FL, Becky (Bob) Rickard, Jefferson City, MO, and Gail (Mike) Pickett, Perham, MN, as well as sister-in-law Fran Harrelson. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 5 -7 p.m. with the family present to receive friends at that time at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with graveside services to follow on Friday, morning, April 1st at 11:00 a.m. where he will be laid to rest in the family lot alongside his wife, Carol at the Scobee Cemetery, Pollock, MO south of Unionville. Missouri in Sullivan County. Officiating the committal service will be the Rev. Mark Appold.Visitation
