Rodney Day

June 15, 1933 — February 4, 2016

Rodney Orville Day passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.The son of Orville Otto and Blanche Elizabeth Wright Day he was born June 15th 1933 in Libertyville, Iowa.

Rodney graduated from Granger High School in Granger, Missouri in the class of 1951. Following graduation he worked at Sheller Globe in Keokuk, Iowa before entering the United States Army. After an honorable discharge he  worked 34 years at General Mills (now ADM) in Keokuk, retiring in 1992 at the age of 59.

Rodney married Donna Gorham January 16th, 1954, in Las Cruses, New Mexico they were married 34 years when Donna died September 6th 1988. Rodney Later married Doris Tague on July 10th 1994 at the Gorin Baptist Church, Gorin, Missouri.

Rodney was a member of the Gorin Baptist Church in Gorin, Missouri where he sang in the choir and helped with Sunday School and youth Bible Camps. He was a member of the American Legion. He was the assistant Boy Scout Master of Troup # 55 and Webelo's Leader for Cub Pack 69 (both in Keokuk) and continued to help with for many years after his sons left scouting. He was a member of the 2 Cylinder Club and enjoyed tractors and woodworking. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, as he was always good for a laugh.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Donna, his parents, Three sisters; Opal Day (in childhood), Vera Hamilton, and Esther Johnson, two brothers Robert Day and Earl Day.

Rodney is survived by his wife Doris, four sons and their wives; Clarence (Pat) Day, of Keokuk, Iowa, Dennis (Carol) Day of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Steven (Janell) Day of Keokuk and Terry (Lynn) Day of Quincy, Illinois, two stepsons; Dale (Lisa) Tague and Larry (Tamara) Tague all of Gorin, Missouri, 6 Grandchildren; Joseph (Kati) Day, Steven Jr. (Brittany) Day, Amy (James) Day West, Cassandra (Kent) Day Mahan, Summer Day (her companion Evan Treadwell) , and James Day, 6 great-grandchildren; Aiden, Breysan, Carleigh, Charlotte Day, Liam and Eden West, Step grandchildren; Brian, Brent, Ben and Brianna Vass, Matthew Schwiete, Troy, Jared, Amber, Becca and Lee Tague as well as step great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Donald Day, Bert Day and Richard Day and a sister, Leona Oliver along with many nephews and nieces.

Memorials are suggested to the Gorin Baptist Church or the Missouri Baptist Children's Home in care of Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri

Interment
Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk, Iowa  / Military Graveside rites by the American Legion post # 41 of Keokuk, Iowa and the Military Honors Program
