Richard Keith Briggs

Richard Keith Briggs peacefully departed this world the evening of July 12, 2014 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Richard Keith Briggs was born October 7, 1934 to Thomas Wayne Victor Briggs and Mary Ellen “Alrichs” Briggs at Strickler Hospital in Kirksville, Missouri.  Richard was born the second of four boys and attended school at Prairie View in Scotland County, graduating from Memphis High School in 1952.  Richard and Christine “Orton” Briggs married June 5, 1955 at the Oakridge Baptist Church; to this union two children were born:  Nancy and Keith.

Richard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Memphis.   Richard and his father ran the local Phillips 66 Station for several years before starting his own automotive business specializing in automatic transmissions which he enjoyed until the time of his hospitalization on June 26, 2014.

Preceding Richard in death were his wife, parents and a brother, Robert Briggs.

Surviving family members include his children: Nancy Hirner of Memphis, Missouri and Keith Briggs of Kansas City, Missouri; granddaughter:  Anna Hirner of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; brothers:  Gary (Adrianna) Briggs of Memphis, Missouri and Roger (Barbara) Briggs of Rushville, Illinois; sister-in-law, Benjie Briggs of Memphis, Missouri; brother-and-sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie Orton of Macomb, Illinois; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Blessing Hospice and Palliative Care for a special bed to aid in comfort of inpatient hospice patients with severe degenerative pains, Dover Cemetery Association or to the First Baptist Church  and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
