Nelda Olean Hilpert of Memphis, MO, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Scotland CountyCare Center in Memphis, MO. Nelda was born February 9, 1925. She was the daughter of Mervin Smith Walker and Bertha Tweed Walker. On April 18, 1944, she was married to Eugene Hilpert (Gene) who preceded her in death in February 1975. Surviving are five children: Debbie Gorham (John), Vickie Hilpert, Kathy Green (Robert), Gary Hilpert (Terry), and Steve Hilpert (Sherry). Also surviving are: one sister, Delores Decker (Robert) of Macon, GA.; nine grandchildren, Sarah Gorham Mack (Brandon), Nicolas Gorham (Kristine), Lucas Green (Jennifer), Travis Green (Chrissy), Andrew Green (Marilyn), Angela HilpertSawyer, Gene Hilpert (Roxanne), Ryan Hilpert, and Chris Hilpert; eighteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Nelda was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Glenn Walker, Maxine Walker, Alice Walker Lillard, and Mervin Smith Walker, Jr. Nelda graduated from high school in Williamstown, MO, attended Kirksville State Teachers College, and taught in rural Scotland County schools for several years. She was employed by Scotland County R-I Schools for twenty-seven years, first as a cook, then as secretary at the East Elementary School. Nelda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized as a member of Providence Baptist Church in Williamstown, MO. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church near Azen before becoming a member of First Baptist Church, Memphis, MO. In 1991, Nelda moved to Memphis to live with her daughter Vickie. She and Vickie lived together until Nelda entered Scotland County Care Center in February 2019. The family would like to thank Vickie for her devoted care of her mother. Special thanks to Jeri McDonald for the love she showed to Nelda during good times and bad. She has been a faithful friend to the Hilpert family.Visitation
