Luella Jane Tinkle

October 7, 1939 — February 14, 2013

Luella Jane Tinkle, 73, of Memphis, MO. passed away peacefully early on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Columbia, MO, after a short battle with Cancer. She was surrounded by her children, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The daughter of Charles Steven and Frances Isla Davis Cookson, Luella was born in Camp Point, IL on October 7, 1939, the third of four children. She graduated high school in Camp Point, IL.

She married Vernon ‘Red’ Tinkle on October 11, 1958. They lived in the Grinnell area until 1969 when they moved to Des Moines, IA. They continued to live in central Iowa until 1999 when they moved to Memphis, MO.

Luella enjoyed two careers during her lifetime. She worked for more than 20 years at Quest

Telephone Company

. Not long after she retired from Quest she went to

work at

Walmart and has been there for more than 20 years. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #109 in Des Moines, IA. Luella loved spending time with her grandchildren and other family.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Vernon ‘Red’ Tinkle; brother, Glen Cookson; sister-in-law, Betty Story and her husband Fred; brother-in-law’s, Lawrence Ward; Gene Lindenman.

Surviving relatives include three daughters: Brenda (Lyle) Etzen of State Center, IA; Tammy (Scott) Eaton of Des Moines, IA; Sandi (Mike) Overbey of Beaverton, OR. Two Sons: Roger Tinkle of Des Moines, IA; Kirt (Kendra) Marshall of Gering, NE. Three step-sons: Larry (Geneva) Tinkle; Ronnie (Chris) Tinkle of Memphis, MO; Rick Tinkle of Brashear, MO. Brother: Wayne (Patt) Cookson of Liberty, IL; Sister: Janet (Larry) Sparks of Ewing, MO; Sister-in-law: Betty Cookson of Grinnell, IA; Sister-in-law: Bonnie Ward of Memphis, MO; Brother-in-law’s: Bill (Francine) Tinkle of Grinnell, IA; Verlan (Iva) Tinkle of Malcom, IA; Sister-in-law: Rosie (Virgil) Roorda of Barnes City, IA; 21 Grandchildren; 33 Great-Grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, adopted family and friends.
