Loyd Leon Gordy

Loyd Leon Gordy was born in Scotland County Missouri, just north of Granger to Thomas Anderson Gordy and Mabel Neoma Kinney Gordy on June 15, 1932. Loyd was one of 10 children.

He graduated form Gorin High School in 1950. One of the first jobs was working in wheat fields in Colorado with relatives for a couple of years, he also worked in a Hatchery, for a farmer and as an auto mechanic. He worked for the Railroad and remained a faithful employee for 27 years. Loyd injured his back and had to retire from that career in May of 1988.

Loyd found the love of his life when in the 5th grade and never gave up on making his soulmate his wife. On January 19,1952, he married Ethel Louise Walker. Soon after their marriage, Loyd was called to serve his country in the Army, spending 2 years in Korea, then served in the reserves to finish his military career. He was awarded various honors for his service, including a Bronze Star, a United Nations Service Star, a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Loyd and Louise shared 73 years together. He helped to build a log house in the country. They celebrated their 50th anniversary, the honeymoon they never had, as they visited 15 states over their years together. While he had a special passion and love of hunting and fishing, his family was always what he cherished most.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Louise, and their 4 children, Bonnie Wilson, Brenda Martin, Beth Brehe and Brian Gordy. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to Luray Church of Faith and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis Missouri 63555
