The daughter of Danny L and Carolyn (Bull) Hinds, Jan Michelle (Hinds) Meeks was born in Bloomfield, Iowa on April 8, 1960. She passed away at the Boone Medical Center in Columbia, MO on September 9, 2025.

She attended school at Scotland County R-1 and graduated with the class of 1978. She attended CMSU but found her heart was back at home with Doug. She attended Kirksville Vo Tech and graduated in 1991 with a nursing degree.

Earlier in life Jan was employed at the Memphis License Bureau, along with working at the Bank of Memphis as a teller. Her greatest accomplishment was raising two children, Ashly and Brock. Jan's true love in life were her grandchildren. There was nothing she wouldn't do for them.

After receiving her degree she began to work at the Scotland County Care Center, Grim Smith Hospital in the obstetrics department, and worked in the home health field in Kirksville as well. She also spent time working at Memphis Medical and the Scotland County Hospital in many departments. Her most recent nursing job was a traveling nurse traveling to many facilities in Iowa and Missouri.

Jan was an excellent cook. She was known for her macaroni and cheese, rice krispy treats and most famous for her chocolate chip cookies.

In her spare time she enjoyed going to the beach with her family. She felt at peace by the ocean. She was an avid reader. James Patterson was her favorite author.

Jan was a member of the Scotland County Ambulance board for several years and was a member of the Memphis United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Danny L. and Carolyn Bull Hinds and one sister, Jodie Hinds along with her brother-in law, Jeff Hinds.

Surviving relatives include her husband: Doug Meeks; a daughter: Ashley Meeks; a son: Brock (Sherry) Meeks, all of Memphis. She is also survived by two grandchildren: Bralee and Braydan McBee; both of Memphis, one brother: Jed (Keri) Hinds of Memphis; two sister-in-laws: Cathy (Paul) Campbell & Holly (Chris) Harris; all of Memphis, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and three "adopted" grandchildren: Shaylee Billings, Kayleigh and Xander Mathes.
