James Hugh Nicoli, 73, of Downing, Missouri passed away at Scotland County Hospital, Memphis, Missouri, on Sunday October 20, 2024 surrounded by his family.

James was born January 24, 1951 at home, in Union Township in Scotland County, Missouri, the son of Bobby Lee and Mary Evelyn (Mincks) Nicoli. He grew up in Scotland County and attended school at Elm Grove Memphis Elementary & Cox schools, followed by Memphis High School.

He married Deanna Irene Haskell on December 21, 1968, in Memphis, Missouri, and she survives along with his three sons: James D. Nicoli (Shelli) of Kirksville, MO, Scott H. Nicoli (Tara) of Keokuk, IA, and Ronald J. Nicoli (Debbie Jo) of Helena, MT. He is also survived by a sister Linda Larkin and family.

James was a proud Grandfather of Skyler Wiemann (Josh), Ethan Nicoli, Sydney McClure, Taylor Krome, Bailey Londrie (Austin), Nick Nicoli, Allie Nicoli, Jonathan Nicoli (Morgan), Dominic Nicoli, Bridgette Nicoli, Cameron Nicoli (Krystal), and Addison Nicoli. Grandchildren blended into the family Kaytee Wyble and Keyton Summers.

Also a Great-Grandfather to Henry Wiemann, Kasey McClure, Hudson Krome, Houston Krome, Lyla Krome, Bryson Londrie, Ryder Londrie, Kinlee Londrie, Damian Nicoli, and

Maryann Nicoli. Great-Grandchildren blended into the family Aliana Woods and Liliana Bunch.

James was a quiet, caring and hardworking man who loved his family. He worked many years as a carpenter and farm hand. He enjoyed the outdoors, caring for livestock, and his dogs. He enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Mary Nicoli.

 A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the family or Adair County Humane Society and may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
