Dorthy M. Franklin Memphis, Missouri 1924 - 2015

Dorthy Franklin, 90, of Memphis, MO, passed away on April 23, 2015 and went to be with her Lord. The oldest of eight children of Hobert and Edith (Henry) Purvis, she was born on November 23, 1924 west of Greensburg, MO in Scotland County where she had lived most of her life. She attended several rural schools in the county. She attended three years of High School in Memphis and graduated from Winfield High School in 1943, at Winfield, IA.

Dorthy met Paul Franklin and they were married on December 25, 1942, and to this union three daughters were born: Mary, GeorgAnna and Jeri. While Paul was still in the service she went on and finished her schooling. Later she moved to Sarasota, Florida where Paul was stationed for three years. After he retired from active duty, Dorthy and Paul returned to Scotland County 1945, where they lived on a farm west of Memphis,

She worked in cleaning homes, restaurants and Shellor Globe for 13 1/2 years, Dairy Queen for 2 years and the Scotland County Hospital for 7 years. She loved her flowers and garden and also loved to can vegetables and sew for her daughters. Her other hobbies included crafts and sales.

She attended First Christian Church in Memphis where she enjoyed being involved and had been a member since 1937. Dorthy loved her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 67 years, Paul, in 2010, daughter, Jeri, in 2012, two sisters: Georgia Dean, Mary Lucille; four brothers: Hobert Jr., Gerald, Wayne Estel and Stanley; son-in-law, Leroy Morgan and both grandparents: Wm. and Viola Purvis, Bert and Virah Henry.

She is survived by her two daughters: Mary Morgan of Memphis, MO, GeorgAnna (Gary) Madsen of Des Moines, IA, son-in-law: Stanley Mohr (Theresa) of Memphis, MO: six grandchildren: Paula (Chris) Montgomery, Marcia (Randy) Holman, David (Scarlett) Mohr, Darla (Joe) Dixon, Diane (Gail) Melvin and Allan (Jodi) Madsen. Great-grandchildren: Lane, Ty and Dylan Mohr, Morgan, Jessica, Sarah, Will and Hannah Montgomery, Caitlan Holman, Hayden and Claudia Dixon, Lydia and Lucas Melvin and step-great-grandchildren: Joey and Janey Furnald. Also surviving is her brother Richard (Shirley) Purvis, sister-in-laws; Jean Purvis, Fredina Purvis and Helen Garr along with other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Cancer Fund in care of the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
