Burdett Kice

February 5, 1927 — September 11, 2012

Elmer Burdett Kice passed away on September 11, 2012, at the Scotland County

Hospital following a long illness. The son of Otto and Laura Kice, he was born on February 5th1927, in Arbela Missouri.

He married June Palmer on December 24, 1948. To this union three children were born.

Burdett loved his family and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Burdett attended Plum College grade school and graduated from Granger High School in 1943.

Burdett was a life-long member of the Arbela Methodist church.

Burdett was life-long farmer who enjoyed caring for his livestock. He was a devoted steward of the land and incorporated many conservation practices in his farming operation.

Burdett served on the Arbela and Scotland County school boards and was the President of the school board during the building of the new high school.

Burdett’s hobby interests included his antique tractor (’54 MTA), coin collecting and his years as a student pilot.

Burdett was a 50 year member of the Grand Lodge of Missouri Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Memphis Lodge #16.

Burdett was elected County Commissioner-Western District where he worked hard to secure grants and funding to build bridges and roads.

Preceding Burdett in death, were his parents, Otto and Laura Kice, and a sister Ethel Louise, who died in infancy.

Burdett is survived by his wife of 63 years and three children; Rhonda (Kice) Davis and husband Billy Davis, of Bellevue, Ne. ; Ronald Kice and fiancée Elaine Cross, Memphis Mo.; and James Kice and fiancée Teri Herring, Memphis.

Eight grandchildren; Chad Davis and wife Jennifer; Kimberley (Davis) Wilson and husband Jason; Tisha (Kice) Briggs and husband David; Tonya Kice; Jeffery Kice; Wyatt Kice; Megan Kice; and Braedon Kice. Seven great-grandsons, Chase Davis, Gavin Davis, Jadyn Edwards, Cash Davis, Adrian and Isaac Briggs, and Palmer Kice.

One brother, Delmar Kice and wife Clarice.

Four brothers–in-law and sisters-in-law, Doris and Bill Guernsey, Donald and Patty Palmer, Lyle and Mary Ann Palmer, and Wyne and Nadine Palmer and their families. Also included are two special cousins, Okie Boyer and Leland LeClair.

Memorials may be made to the Arbela Methodist church, Hickory Grove Cemetery,  or the Scotland County Genealogical Society, and may be left at or mailed to Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, Mo, 63555.
