Betty N. Wheeler

August 21, 1933 — July 23, 2025

Betty N. (Bissell) Wheeler, 91, of Memphis, Missouri passed away July 23, 2025, at Scotland County Hospital where she had been in a “Comfort Care” area. She was born on August 21, 1933, the daughter of Buford and Bessie Bissell. Betty attended high school in Memphis, Missouri and graduated from there in 1951. After graduating high school Betty held different jobs ranging from working in a shoe store to selling insurance, before deciding to spend her time keeping the house in order. Betty married Larry (John) Wheeler December 10, 1977, in Lancaster, Missouri. Although Betty and John never had children of their own together, they had many nieces and nephews they loved spending time with and spoiling. Betty was a small, petite woman who always had her hair fixed and earrings in but would never miss a chance to spend a day in the field deer hunting or an evening coon hunting with John. Betty and John enjoyed many evening walks to the lake, traveling to auctions all over the area and eating supper in town. When it came to spending time with family & friends, Betty was always sure to bring a pie or Texas sheet cake she had baked, for everyone to enjoy. Betty could also be found shopping for a good deal whether it be at a yard sale in town or JCPenney. Betty will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her husband John. John says Betty was “the best, most loving wife he could have ever asked for” and he will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, one stepbrother, 2 nephews, and many in-laws, cousins, and friends.Surviving family includes her husband, John Wheeler; brother Boyd (Jeanie) Bissell, stepsisters Dorothy (Bob) Hunolt, Verna Mae (LaVern) Weilbrenner, Karen (Orrie) Muench;along with many nieces and nephews (great and great great).
