Alice McNamar

May 23, 1925 — April 1, 2017

Alice Susan Bell McNamar, 91, of Memphis, Missouri passed away April 1, 2017, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.  The daughter of Ernest Marvin and Susan Speelman Miller, she was born May 23,1925 at Romney, West Virginia.

She was united in marriage to Frank Eston McNamar on December 4, 1944 at Granger, Missouri and to this union five children were born:  Carol, Jerry, Bill, Lenna and Donna.

They opened the first foster home in Bourbon County, Kansas where they cared for over 110 children in it's tenure until 1958 when they moved to Granger Missouri.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis and attended faithfully as long as her health allowed.

She loved her family, quilting and baking cookies for them while they shared time together.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Frank in 1972, a son, Gerald Vincent McNamar, a daughter, Lenna Marie Bruce, two grandchildren, Rodney Joseph McNamar and Arthur Paul Baird, a brother, Franklin Miller and two sisters, Esther Galliher and Helen Hallford,

Survivors include two daughters: Carol Baird of Memphis, and Donna (Dean) Schulz of Newton, KS; one son: Bill (Mazie) McNamar of Belton, TX; a foster son: George Pillion of Fort Scott, KS and a daughter-in-law: Carolyn McNamar of Terrell, TX; twelve grandchildren: Chris (Russ) Kyzer of Pelham, Alabama, Linda Baird of Chanute, KS, Stacy (Bob) Summers of Norman, OK, Chad (Traci) McNamar of Midwest City, OK, Toni (Keith) Ragsdale of Austin, TX, Sarah (Ed) Alee of Fort Scott, KS, Ronnie Byrd of Pittsburg, KS, Amber (Ben) Andrews of Camp Lejeune, NC, Rebecca Buchta of Wichita, KS, Carrie Shive of Fort Drum NY, Erin (Hank) Unruh of Newton, KS and Kristin Schultz of Newton, KS; several great-grandchildren; two brothers: Wilber “Ernest” (Kathy) Miller of Rogers, AK and Harry (June) Miller of LaHarpe, IL, a sister: Ethel Seabold of Farmington, IL along with other relatives and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Memphis and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.
